The Shadowspawn cometh!
For every dark lord laying waste to the lands of men, dwarves and elves, or mighty sorceress tearing her foes apart with the darkest of magics, there is the servant, the twisted, shadowy figure that carries out their will from the shadows.
The one for today is Murgur Shadowspawn (or just "The Shadowspawn"), the hunched and malformed acolyte of The Witch, tasked with serving her champion (and perhaps keeping an eye on him).
The energy I was going for, well, a mixture of this and Quasimodo
For this project I wanted to evoke the channeling of dark power in the model, a dynamism and general outline that is rather unique for the armored and very static hordes of the Chaos Warriors, with the conversion inspired by a simply stunning piece I have seen in my online searching.
Just making it clear, this is not my model, all credit goes to the original creator, look up his works if you want to see more gorgeous models and conversions.
The neck was hacked away at and the head was removed and replaced with a suitably hellish visage I had lying about from the Chaos Knight kit, which was then affixed onto the sculpted fur I greenstuffed on to add a sufficiently twisted and chaotic bent to the model. I wanted him to appear as an enigmatic silhouette, something that is neither recognizably man nor beast, but rather a twisted monster somewhere in between.
Since I was rather pleased with the way the fur was turning out I extended the motif across the model, granting him some matted fur on the limbs and back beneath the back of his cape.
To replace the left arm (which in the base model held a greenskin staff) I decided to use the cleaver from the warshrine kit, its a brutal looking weapon I had been hankering to use for something and I figured now was as good a time as ever. The hand was fully sculpted from greenstuff, and while the final product was rather rough and all around generally sub-par I will admit, I cant help but be somewhat proud of how it turned out in the end (as you shall see)
The original version of the model had the helmet be far more centered on his torso, with the fur almost looking like a beard. But I eventually shifted it further up for a more humanoid posture, and a hood was sculpted on to further the twisted warlock look I was going for..
